Laurin Herr, 6th degree Black Belt, began his Aikido training in 1971 as an undergraduate student at Cornell University. Inspired by his first experience, he studied the Japanese language, moved to Tokyo and entered Hombu Dojo as an unranked white belt, eventually receiving his shodan there. He spent several more years in Japan practicing Aikido intensely as a personal student of Hikitsuchi Michio at the Kumano Juku Dojo in Shingu. He has been practicing with Robert Nadeau since 1999 and has been teaching at City Aikido of San Francisco since 2004.
In his classes, Laurin seeks to convey the essence of Aikido as both a non-violent martial art of harmonious power and as a path of spiritual training for transformational personal growth.
Outside the dojo, Laurin is president of Pacific Interface, a digital media technology and international business development consulting company.
